East Africa regional workshop on agricultural financing

Access and utilisation of suitable agricultural finance by small scale farmers (SSF) and traders is one of the biggest hampering factors for improving rural livelihoods, to invest in their farms and improve production and/or productivity, store produce and wait to utilise high prices during the lean seasons, nor invest to add value through processing.

In this regard, documenting and understanding the opportunities and challenges/hindering factors to access financing by all actors in agricultural chains is vital for the development of these market chains. VECO in partnership with Farmer Organizations in Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and DR Congo and in collaboration with CORDAID organised a three-day workshop to discuss issues related to agricultural financing (6-8 October 2009).
