Participatory Agricultural Chain Assessment or “PACA”

Sustainable Agricultural Chain Development for several years now is a new paradigm in Agricultural Development in the Development Sector and has been adopted by many NGO’s, research institutes, development agencies and government programmes as an important strategy in their programmes. Chain Development has proven that it can have an important positive impact on farmer’s livelihood.
This booklet presents a new methodology for a comprehensive analysis of Agricultural Commodity Chains called Participatory Agricultural Chain Assessment or “PACA”, that was developed and tested by VECO in Indonesia. Dr. Nerlie Manalili has developed the concept and guided its implementation at field–level in a multi-stakeholder setting.
We hope this practical guide is a useful tool for other Chain Development programs and can contribute to improving the analysis of Agricultural Commodity Chains and improved monitoring of Agricultural Chain development processes.
